Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams are feeling "serendipitous" about joining The Voice next season.
Today set its fourth hour from the set of The Voice on Monday, kicking off the segment by airing a first chat with the upcoming season 7 coaches, who were officially announced to join the NBC singing show last Tuesday. PHOTOS: 'The Voice': Meet the Season 6 Singers
"I'm trying to pinch myself -- is this really happening?" Stefani said of her future spinning chair. Williams added of their onscreen reunion, "It's magical, it's serendipitous. We've always had a special connection, and it was always through music that we recognized each other's admiration and the depths [that] there was such potential."
Williams will replace Cee Lo Green, while Stefani will step in for Christina Aguilera, who is set to return for season 8.
Williams said of his intended coaching strategy, "My advice is always gonna have a consistent thread of, 'Be you -- if it doesn't work for this show, that's okay,' ... You'll see what Gwen and I do -- we're gonna take a slightly different approach. All we're gonna do is hold up the mirror and show people how rad they are already."
The two musicians collaborated a decade ago for Stefani's solo hit "Hollaback Girl," which Williams co-wrote and produced.
"I knew what I wanted," Stefani said of describing her idea for the track to him. "It's like he had it in there already, but he had forgotten about it. He just does his thing! We were jumping on the couch." STORY: 'The Voice' Coaches Offer Advice to Pharrell Williams for Season 7
Williams also reiterated that he originally intended to work with former Voice coach Green on his Oscar-nominated hit "Happy," but added that it was supposed to be a duet. "I do regret that it didn't come out because he was so amazing on it."
The two also previously collaborated on Williams' track, "Can I Have It Like That" in 2005.
As a way to introduce the new coaches, Williams will perform new G I R L single "Come Get It Bae," while Stefani will take the stage for "Hollaback Girl" on Monday night's live episode.
